Helping SMEs Move Up the Value Chain

Empowering Economic Transformation

At Leve Global, we understand that true economic transformation happens when small and micro-enterprises are empowered to capture more value from the products and services they offer. That’s why, in every project we undertake, we actively support SMEs, artisans, farmers, and informal vendors in moving beyond low-value transactions to higher-value, premium offerings. Our work doesn’t just diagnose problems—it delivers practical, hands-on solutions to help people move up the value chain, increase their income, and grow sustainable businesses.

Case Study: Grenada – Female Empowerment: Transforming Brands for Global Markets

In Grenada, during our “New Products. New Markets.” project, we worked closely with a female micro-business owner who specialized in handmade jewelry. Rather than just encouraging her to improve production, we went further—providing one-on-one coaching on branding, digital marketing, and positioning. With our support, she revamped her logo, upgraded her website and Facebook presence, and repositioned her brand as a luxury, high-end offering. As a result, she was able to increase her visibility, attract more upscale buyers, and command significantly higher prices for her work.

The principles taught by Dr. Poon and her team allowed me to transform my brand to meet the needs of global markets. I now have a new and improved brand, revamped website, and more attractive packaging.”

Tamara, Tambran, Grenada

Case Study: Turning Cashew into Cash (Mozambique)

In Mozambique, while working with smallholder cashew farmers, we observed that many were producing soft, low-quality cashew nuts that did not meet the standards for raw export. Instead of focusing on what they couldn’t do, we focused on what they could do. We introduced the idea of value-added cashew milk production, a product with growing demand both locally and internationally. By shifting from selling raw nuts to producing cashew milk, farmers were able to extend the shelf life of their product, diversify their income, and tap into new consumer markets.

Case Study: From Vendor to Cultural Ambassador (Saint Lucia)

In Saint Lucia, during the South East Coast Responsible Tourism Strategy, we engaged with local street vendors who sold traditional hand-woven baskets. Instead of advising them to simply improve their packaging or pricing, we proposed a more innovative leap: offering basket-weaving experiences for tourists. We showed them that by providing one-on-one weaving workshops, they could command a premium price and elevate their role from vendor to cultural ambassador. This not only increased their earnings but also deepened the tourism experience for visitors, strengthening the link between culture and commerce.

Case Study: Financial Products for SME Growth

Similarly, in Jamaica, our comprehensive sector studies for the Development Bank of Jamaica identified critical market gaps and opportunities along the value chain for 12 key sectors. We developed new financial products specifically designed to support SMEs in moving up their respective value chains, enabling them to capture more value and build more sustainable businesses.

From Survival to Thriving

These are just a few examples of how we help SMEs break through the ceiling of low-value offerings and unlock their potential for greater profitability, sustainability, and market relevance. By focusing on value addition, innovation, and strategic repositioning, Leve Global helps small businesses not only survive—but thrive.
